ARCO Design/Build (ARCO) proudly announces a significant milestone in safety excellence with an Experienced Modification Rate (EMR) of 0.58. In an industry where the average EMR stands at 1.0, this achievement underscores ARCO’s commitment to safety, further solidifying our position as an industry leader.

A Human-Centric Approach to Safety

At ARCO, safety isn’t just about compliance; it’s about ensuring that every team member returns home safely to their loved ones every night. This commitment is rooted in caring for one another and fostering a culture where safety is everyone’s responsibility, leading to better project outcomes and strong relationships.

ARCO SAFE: A Comprehensive Safety Program

The cornerstone of ARCO’s safety program is the ARCO SAFE initiative, designed to eliminate accidents and injuries during the construction process. The program maintains a proactive approach through coordination meetings, continuous health and safety education, and regular compliance verifications.

Key elements of this program include:

  • Continuous Education and Awareness. Weekly ARCO SAFE Safety Briefs and “Tool Box” Talks ensure that managers, superintendents, and subcontractor field personnel are educated and aware of current safety issues and trends.
  • Proactive Hazard Identification and Documentation. Meticulous documentation of weekly safety inspections allows ARCO Superintendents to identify and address potential hazards promptly.
  • Collaboration & Communication. Pre-job meetings with subcontractors led by ARCO Safety Managers ensure comprehensive discussions on key scopes of work and safety protocols.
  • Strict PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) Requirements. This includes high-visibility apparel, hard hats, safety glasses, and fall protection systems. All of these are enforced for all workers on-site.
  • Education Video Sessions & Site-Specific Orientation. All workers attend an educational video session on OSHA and ARCO safety standards, followed by a site-specific orientation to familiarize themselves with safety protocols.
  • Comprehensive Training. Design/Build Managers and Superintendents undergo comprehensive training in First Aid/CPR/AED and complete OSHA Construction 10-hour and 30-hour classes to stay updated on industry standards.

Embracing a Culture of Safety as a Core Value

By embracing safety as a core value, ARCO strives to create environments where everyone feels valued and protected, fostering partnerships based on mutual respect. This commitment extends beyond impressive ratings. It’s about creating a legacy of care and responsibility that enhances both projects and communities.

ARCO’s EMR rating of 0.58 is a testament to our unwavering dedication to safety. However, safety is more than just a number, it’s about the people who make up our teams and the communities we serve. By prioritizing a human-centric approach to safety, we are not only building structures; we’re building a safer industry for everyone.
